Vitalik proposed the Ethereum 2025 development roadmap to address the challenges posed by emerging public chain competition.
Vitalik recently proposed a series of important guidelines for the development of Ethereum. He emphasized the need to adhere to the principles of supply economics and to strengthen confidence in the centralized path and culture of Ethereum infrastructure when facing external challenges. He suggested continuing to promote the modularization and Sharding process of Ethereum, with a focus on implementing the Pectra and Fulu Osaka mainnet upgrade projects in 2025. At the same time, he also highlighted the importance of breakthroughs in key areas such as account abstraction, cross-layer interoperability, Blob market mechanisms, data availability sampling, and the statelessness of mainnet Blocks.
In the new year, the Ethereum ecosystem will be user-centric, promoting the widespread adoption of Web3. The focus will be on developing new high-performance alternative virtual machine chains and attracting more users through innovative incentive mechanisms, solidifying Ethereum's position as the global computation and Web3 financial settlement layer.
Vitalik's views reflect his love for the ideals and infrastructure of decentralization, but also reveal his concerns about certain user groups, such as DeFi enthusiasts, speculators, and cryptocurrency traders.
Recently, some emerging blockchain ecosystems have stood out in terms of trading volume and user growth, even surpassing the entire Ethereum ecosystem during certain periods. More notably, these emerging platforms seem to be more favored by the younger generation of users and developers, many of whom have already regarded Ethereum as outdated technology.
In response to these challenges from the user level, Vitalik's proposed solutions mainly focus on continuing to strengthen infrastructure development.
Although all parties avoid publicly acknowledging it, there is a general belief in the industry that fierce competition will emerge between different blockchain platforms in 2025. The market and user competition among different virtual machine platforms may bring new opportunities for investors.
According to the pricing of certain options markets, there may be a highly volatile market structure in 2025. In this relatively tight liquidity environment with low risk appetite, it is possible that the market capitalization of some emerging platforms may briefly exceed that of Ethereum. If this occurs, it could trigger a significant shift in market psychology, presenting serious challenges for Ethereum.
