Baidu releases Wenxin 4.0 to compete with GPT-4 as the global generative AI market accelerates its expansion.
Baidu releases Wenxin Large Model 4.0, claiming its comprehensive level is not inferior to GPT-4
On October 17th, Baidu officially launched the Wenxin Large Model version 4.0 and commenced an invitation-only testing phase. Baidu's founder, Robin Li, stated that this is the most powerful Wenxin Large Model to date, with significant improvements in understanding, generation, logic, and memory capabilities, with an overall level "comparable to GPT-4."
In addition, Baidu has also launched the generative business intelligence product "Baidu GBI". This product has capabilities in three areas: supporting natural language interaction, cross-database analysis, and professional knowledge learning, which can reduce the work that data analysts take days to complete to just a few minutes.
Li Yanhong revealed that multiple products of Baidu have been restructured based on AI large models, including search, Ruliu, maps, cloud storage, and Wenku, etc. He emphasized that generative AI and search are a "match made in heaven."
At the same time, the International Data Corporation ( IDC ) predicts that global spending on generative AI will reach $143 billion by 2027. It is expected that the compound annual growth rate of generative AI solutions will reach 73.3% during the period from 2023 to 2027. This growth rate significantly exceeds that of overall AI spending and is 13 times higher than the growth rate of global IT spending during the same period.
In terms of enterprise applications, PwC has collaborated with OpenAI to provide clients with AI-generated advice on complex issues in areas such as taxation, law, and human resources. This initiative aims to reduce costs and improve productivity.
In addition, ByteDance's video editor CapCut has launched an AI advertising tool for businesses called CapCut for Business. This tool offers features such as AI script generation, commercial licensing templates, and smart URL to video conversion, aimed at helping advertisers and creators improve efficiency.
In the retail sector, Salesforce's report shows that 91% of retailers in Australia and New Zealand are investing in generative AI technology. Among them, millennials show a high interest in using this technology to find shopping inspiration.
Domestic home appliance giant Midea Group also plans to launch the Meiyan large model in the smart home field next year, and is currently undergoing the filing process. This model will be used to enhance user interaction and autonomous decision-making capabilities of smart home appliances.
In terms of investment and financing, AI company Baichuan Intelligence completed a $300 million A1 round of financing, with investors including tech giants such as Alibaba, Tencent, and Xiaomi. With the previous angel round funding included, Baichuan Intelligence's total financing amount has reached $350 million.
Despite the rapid development of AI technology, a recent study by Princeton University and the University of Chicago found that large language models still face challenges in solving real programming problems on GitHub, indicating that the road to AI fully replacing programmers may still be long.
