Alena Vranova, founder of SatoshiLabs, warns of the rise of "wrench attacks", physical assaults, and kidnappings aimed at stealing the private keys of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency holders. According to her, there is at least one victim kidnapped, tortured, or extorted, and even killed, every week, with the amount stolen possibly starting from 6,000 USD.

In 2025, the number of attacks is expected to double the previous worst record, partly due to data leaks from centralized exchanges and KYC providers. More than 80 million cryptocurrency user identities have been exposed, of which 2.2 million contain home addresses. This data helps criminals target investors and their families.

Attacks often surge in a bull market, prompting investors and businesses to bolster personal safety measures.
